It’s an ongoing challenge for everyone especially for those of us who sit at a desk all day. If this is you, here are a few ways you can incorporate a little activity into your workday.
1) It’s an obvious choice but take the stairs in lieu of the elevator. If you make this a habit throughout your day you are already increasing your daily steps and your heart rate right off the bat.
2) Take a walk on your lunch break and save your lunch for your desk. Fuel up before or after your actual lunch hour and you can squeeze in a solid amount of walking mid day. Mid-day exercise is also the best way to break up the monotony of a long work day.
3) Focus on Your Core – Even if you are sitting at a desk, the way in which you sit has an impact on your overall well-being. When we are sitting at a computer all day, our bodies relax into certain postures that make typing on a keyboard or sitting at an ill-fitting desk more comfortable. Make a conscious effort to engage your abs and straighten up as type away your day. When I work remotely I use a large stability ball as my desk chair. Not only do I find it comfortable but it also helps me to keep my core posture in check.
